Dog Bites

St. Paul Dog Bite Injury Lawyer

Each year thousands of individuals sustain injuries due to being attacked or bitten by dangerous dogs. Frequently this incidents involve young children, and result in emergency room and other treatment, including consultations with plastic surgeons. Psychological and physical injuries such as scarring often result that have profound consequences for the injured party.

Minnesota’s Dog Bite Statute, Minnesota Statute §347.22, reads as follows:

If a dog, without provocation, attacks or injures any person who is acting peaceably in any place where the person may lawfully be, the owner of the dog is liable in damages to the person so attacked or injured to the full amount of the injury sustained. The term “owner” includes any person harboring or keeping a dog but the owner shall be primarily liable. The term “dog” includes both male and female of the canine species.

The law provides strong support for individuals who have been injured as a result of a dog bite or attack by holding the dog owner strictly liable. Also, the dog owner’s homeowner’s insurance may be available to cover the injuries and losses sustained.
